Trip Summary

Itinerary

A two-day tour of grandeur with Egypt Day Trips to Aswan and Abu Simbel. Your Egyptologist can add another interesting flavor to your trip when you meet in the hotel lobby-an interesting thing to do in Luxor.

Head to Aswan, where you visit the Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in the granite quarries. Then get an insight about the High Dam, a gigantic structure built across the Nile at Aswan to control floods and generate electricity, completed in 1971 and named after President Nasser.

Proceed through this enchanting land toward the marvelous Philae Temple, dedicated to Goddess Isis, sitting on Agilika Island south of the Old Aswan Dam. Have fun sailing aboard a genuine Luxor felucca boat ride to Nubian Village at the foot of Elephantine Island, soaking in the simple, natural way of life of the Nubians. Afterwards, transfer to the hotel for check-in and spend a leisurely evening and night in Aswan.

This trip is one of the pinnacle experiences in any Luxor adventure tour, richly blending culture, history, and scenic beauty.

Included Meals: Lunch.

On the second day of your enthralling tour, you will continue your travels to one of the most magnificent historical sites of Egypt: the Abu Simbel Temples. A full breakfast box awaits you at your Aswan hotel, providing sustenance for the day, slated for a tour to an awe-inspiring place with your English-speaking guide and driver.

Standing from the grand era of Ramessid kingship and the New Kingdom, having been constructed under the authority of the mighty Ramesses II, these twin temples of Abu Simbel epitomize would-be greatness and grandeur of the New Kingdom era. These splendid temples would almost have been obscured below the rising waters of the Aswan High Dam without an international salvage operation undertaken by the Egyptian Government alongside UNESCO for their salvation.

Nubia, in the minds of the Ancient Egyptians, was an important land, being a rich source of gold and other precious trade items. Ramesses II built these grand temples in an attempt to convey the might of the Egyptian Empire to the Nubian people and to bind together the region into the Egyptian cultural sphere.

The larger of the two temples is dedicated to the four world gods: Ptah, Re-Horakhty, Amun-Re, and Ramesses II, who is deified. The smaller temple honors Ramesses II's wife, Queen Nefertari, and the goddess Hathor, wife of the sun god. Therefore, in the symbolic sense, the duo of temples puts together Ramesses II, Nefertari, Hathor, and Amun, the god of the sun, as one.

After you have had an experience with these wonders, journey back to Aswan before returning to Luxor for arguably one of the best day tours and activity experiences throughout the whole area.

To ensure a smooth and comfortable journey throughout Egypt, we suggest you pack the following items:

  • Valid Passport (at least 6 months): Double-check that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned arrival date in Egypt, as this is often a requirement for entry.
  • Sun Protection: Given Egypt’s sunny climate, we recommend packing high-SPF sunscreen and lip balm with sun protection to shield your skin from the intense sun.
  • UV-Blocking Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from UV rays and reduce glare while sightseeing, especially when exploring outdoor sites like the Pyramids.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Hygiene is important, particularly when handwashing isn’t always accessible, so be sure to bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is key, particularly in the heat. A refillable water bottle will help you stay refreshed while reducing plastic waste.
  • Insect Repellent: Particularly useful when visiting sites surrounded by nature, insect repellent will keep pesky bugs at bay and protect you from bites.
  • Appropriate Clothing for the Season:
    • Winter: If traveling during the cooler months, pack a warm jacket, sweater, and thermal layers.
    • Summer: Lightweight, breathable cotton clothes are ideal for staying cool in the hot weather.
  • Wide-Brimmed Hat: A hat provides shade and helps protect your face and neck from direct sun exposure.
  • Travel Adapter: Different countries have varying plug types, so bring a universal travel adapter to keep your electronics charged.
  • Camera or Smartphone: Capture stunning memories from your trip with a camera or your phone. Egypt’s ancient sites are perfect for photos!
  • Compact Umbrella: Though Egypt is mostly dry, a small umbrella can be handy during the rare rain showers, especially if you're traveling during the transitional months.
  • Comfortable Shoes: You’ll likely be doing a lot of walking during your sightseeing, so pack sturdy and comfortable shoes suitable for exploring archaeological sites and urban areas.
  • Medications: If you take prescription medication, ensure you have an adequate supply for the duration of your trip. Also, carry any over-the-counter medications you may need for common issues like headaches or stomach discomfort.
